The main ingredients of the design of these four independent holiday houses were the traditional cubic Cycladic architecture and the dry walls (xerolithies) that exist both at the Cycladic landscape and the plot. The architectural vocabulary is clear and creates a minimal residential complex that overlooks the Ios Landscape and the Aegean archipelago.
Stone walls stagger the terrain of the plot, composing platforms. The white volumes gently sit on them like modern man-made white rocks. The small displacement of the volumes in projection from the walls, makes the architecture more visible and sculptural. The swimming tanks are also projected onto the landscape and extend the visual contact with the blue sea. Between the white volumes and the swimming pools, are created spaces for everyday living and relaxation surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation. Lean design pergolas are jutting out next to the buildings creating shade that is necessary for the outdoor living in Greek landscape.
Sculptural excavations in the white volumes, through slits and mass removal, define the windows and doors and create interesting shadow motives that constantly change during the day.
